5 Series

Wrapup

Consistently improved upon, the 5-series has now evolved to be a stronger competitor. Ride is improved, cabin is decent and rear seat is marginally improved, all this with two diesel engine options and one petrol: The M5. However, the rear seat is the least airy in its segment. Plus, it lacks a spare wheel due to run flat tires. It's a good all-rounder but things have moved fast since then.

Quick Review

No car in the mid-sized luxury segment strikes a confident pose as the BMW 5 Series does. Running successfully in its 6th generation, this sedan has been giving a tough time to its arch rivals Audi A6 and the Mercedes E Class on all fronts. Marked by its elongated bonnet with striking creases running from the corners and centre as well, it merges beautifully onto the BMW badge that sits right at the top of the front grille. Unmistakably BMW, the front kidney grille with multiple chrome slats does appear little mundane now, as there hasn’t been any design change for long, but the overall look still carries that punch. Complimenting its aggressive contour lines are the adaptive sweptback LED headlights with BMW’s patent circular daytime running LED rings which makes the 5 Series quite a looker. To add more premium-ness on to the drive along with a sporty appeal, the front bumper on this latest generation sedan now houses a wide spread air dam with angular chrome inserts at the corners along with sporty circular fog lamps. Its inclined front windscreen and sloping roofline creates a coupe styled appeal which is well mated to a sharp shoulder line running from the tail lights onto the front wheel arches. The chrome badging of the variant at the front quarter panel adds that upmarket appeal to this sedan along with chunky 18 inch alloy wheels which can be customized depending on the package opted. Continuing onto its rear, you do get the iconic L shaped LED tail lights but they are now beautifully placed in a split attire that does reminds of its bigger sibling the 7 series. Other than that, the sloping roofline ends to a very sharp crease onto the boot which manifests its aggressive stance even onto the back. Use of chrome at the rear bumper encapsulating the reflectors appears to be a deliberate attempt from BMW to add that extra premium look, which remains quite subjective. However, the twin exhausts on the rear makes the 5 series quite sporty and further compliments its stance. Apart from the standard packages available on this luxury sedan, BMW also offers an M sport package which allows you to go for an M aerodynamic package kit, dark chrome tail pipes as well as M badging on the outside that you can flaunt happily.
