GLA

Wrapup

It's an attempt by the Merc to bang in the current trending of small SUV cross overs. It's designed to compete with cars like the Audi Q3 and BMW X1 and has a nice, attractive yet bold styling which helps it find newer homes. The car offers a more comfortable ride and a much bigger boot than the Mercedes A-Class hatchback on which it is based. A more practical buy over A-Class.

Quick Review

The GLA is a special vehicle for Mercedes Benz India which has all the potential to strengthen and guard the brand’s presence in the country. Well, Why so? It is because the GLA derived from its hatch sibling, the A Class, is a compact crossover that fits perfectly at an entry level budget to entice Indian buyers. The love for SUVs that Indian’s have is not going to fade anytime soon and with this stylish crossover, Merc is surely looking at mass numbers. On the outside, the three pointed star badge sits right at the centre of chunky twin chrome slats grille which give it a sporty stance. The sculpted creases on the bonnet raises the front body of the crossover merging quite brilliantly on to the sweptback bi-xenon headlamps with Merc’s symbolic LED daytime running lights. Instead of opting for front skid plates to showcase the SUV attire, Merc has smartly appointed a front lip spoiler just ahead of a big air dam that gives it more of a sports vehicle appeal rather than an off-roader. Not shying away with cuts and sharp lines, this Merc crossover gets it in plenty at the front bumper with large airvents as well as a deep character line running onto its shoulder to highlight its length from the side. What looks like an afterthought of the engineers at Mercedes, the crossover also gets a side body cladding which help in attaining an overall SUV aesthetics on the outside. Its sliding coupe styled roofline coupled with roof rails makes it quite an attractive package and is surely a vehicle which can be spotted even at from a far distance. The rear of the GLA is in tune with its sports car image which features split tail lamps with LED lighting which looks quite appealing especially during the night. Its fine crease on the tailgate along with a thick chrome bar running across the tail lamps, offer a perfect mix of curves along with sharp features adding onto the Merc’s premium attire. On the back is where Merc has thrown in a chunky skid plate which encapsulates the twin chrome tipped exhausts that adds onto its stunning exteriors. To complete its crossover styling with Merc’s luxury offerings you also get two sunroof ( fixed panoramic & Electric) at the top, stylish five spoke 18 inch alloy wheels, and LED turn indicators as well.
