SLC 43 AMG

Wrapup

Amazingly usable sports car, SLC is a blast to drive when speedo climbs. It's more of a statement of arrival and an impeccable tourer. An updated engine plus gearbox broaden its special feel. A few more practical AMG machines are available but aren't great head turners.

The X Factor

This hard top convertible has an iconic and segment exclusive feature called "Magic Sky Control" which allows outside light to come through roof giving a pleasant ambiance in the car. Furthermore, the light amount is controllable via two modes: "Dark" and "Transparent". Neat!

Bizarre

SLC is the only roadster from Mercedes-Benz to have a diesel engine! Globally, it's also available in non-AMG petrol trims. However, none of these have touched Indian shores yet.

Background

The model it replaces, SLK 55 AMG, had 5.5L V8 engine that produced 415 BHP of power while the newer, smaller 3.0L V6 engine surprisingly produces 362 BHP which is just about 13 percent short of the former's power. Plus, the 0-100 mark achieved by SLC, at 4.7 seconds, is just 0.1 second more than SLK!
