Maruti Suzuki's upcoming hatchback, the new gen Swift, will be unveiled on 18th of this month. The manufacturer will launch the 4th-gen Swift (3rd gen for India as the 1st gen model was never launched in India) at the Auto Expo 2018. It's expected that the car will reach the dealerships by the end of February. Ahead of its launch, Maruti Suzuki dealers have started to take the bookings of the upcoming car with the token amount of Rs. 11,000 unofficially.
The new Swift will be based on the company's new HEARTECT platform, which is around 10-15 per cent lighter and stronger than the outgoing model. Recently launched Dzire is also based on the same platform. Like Dzire, it'll be equipped with the newly designed projector headlamps and LED DRLs. Side profile wears alloy wheels and rear portion will get LED tail lights.
On the inside, the cabin upholstery will be wrapped in a single tone all-black theme. The center console will have circular AC vents and below it a 7" touch screen infotainment system. The flat bottom steering wheel is unlikely to feature in Swift. Safety wise, we expect the car to come with dual front airbags, ISOFIX seat anchors and ABS (Anti-locking Braking System) with EBD (Electronic Brake-force Distribution) and BA (Brake Assist) as standard.
Swift will be powered by the same 1.2-litre, 4 cylinder K-series petrol engine and 1.3-litre, 4 cylinder diesel engine sourced from Fiat. The petrol guise generates 83 HP and 83 Nm of torque while the diesel version churns out 75 HP and 190 Nm of torque. The engines are mated to a 5 speed manual gearbox and an auto tranny is expected for the petrol variants.
New gen Swift will lock horns against Hyundai Grand i10, Ford Figo and Maruti Suzuki’s own Ignis.
