XC 90

Wrapup

The gigantic SUV makes its presence felt with sharp design and classy interiors. Looks more elegant than its rivals and makes a strong statement as it tick boxes almost everything. Safety cannot be questioned even remotely. However the 2.0 litre diesel engine feels under powered for its segment and limited dealer network needs to be expanded.

Quick Review

Considered to be one of the safest drives in the world, Volvo has earned this reputation over a period of time investing time and money to make its cars as reliable as possible. But what Volvo really missed out on, especially in the Indian market, is fetching the tag of being opulent as well as stylish with its offerings. With a special thought on regaining its luxury tag, things seem to have changed in Volvo’s design warehouse with an all new XC90 SUV that is set to rule Indian roads with its redefined striking appeal.

The second generation of the decade old SUV has now received a complete makeover and it definitely looks way more attractive and upmarket from all angles. Its iconic Volvo front grille now houses multiple chrome slats arranged in a vertical fashion that creates a unique charm. What catches the attention are the large sculpted ‘Thor Hammer’ styled LED lights on the headlight cluster which generates a unique identity for this SUV. The bonnet is now more chiseled from the corners with a raised center fascia that neatly amalgamates with the front grille in a curved fashion. The chrome fins on the air dams of the front bumper look much alike its German competition in the segment but they do offer a premium look. Sportiness has increased in this new age SUV as fog lamps now have moved down to the front spoiler which houses a skid plate in between. The XC90 looks more placid and upmarket on the front but when you step on to the side, you can easily find its road commanding presence with huge wheel arches and a character line running on to the shoulder that stretches towards the tail lamp cluster which creates a wide effect. Its sports nature carries on to the rear as well with the trademark Volvo tail lights that run all the way upto the rear spoiler. The skid plate on the rear now spreads across the rear bumper encapsulating the twin exhaust tips. To highlight its overall character, Volvo also offers integrated roof rails that appear a part of the roof along with an option of opting 19 or 20 inch premium set of alloy wheels for the ride.
